Art and Design
Art and Design contributes to the development of the whole child emotionally, aesthetically, spiritually, intellectually and socially. It creates in the child a sense of enjoyment and a sense of purpose. · It provides pupils with a unique way of perceiving themselves and the world, which is not taught in other areas of the curriculum and which is essential to basic education.
Children’s success in Art is acknowledged and celebrated appropriately in Holy Cross Boys’ through display in classrooms and around school.
Large scale pieces the children created are also displayed around the school depicting scenes from Greek legends which are studied in Primary 7.
Some paintings by the great masters are explored and dissected in each primary to learn about technique and application as well as experiencing art appreciation.
There is also an Art After Schools Club where the Primary 5 children can explore different media and purposes for Art.
Art in the environment
There are many examples of pupil's art around the school. Our Art coordinator Mrs Mohan worked with the children in each class to produce art work on a large scale. These are displayed in stairwells and corridors. 2D and 3D work are hanged for all to see and appreciate. They are linked to a Myths and legends theme. There is Pandora's box, the Sirens, Hercules, Icarus and Medusa. All visitors to the school comment on the children's work and the children themselves love to see their magnificent work displayed with pride.
