HCB advance to the semi-finals of the Cumann mBunscol Aontroma

10th Oct 2024

HCB Gaelic team, under the guidance of Mr. McEvoy and Mr. Magennis progressed to the last four of the Cumann mBunscol Aontroma Allianz League Division 2 yesterday after a draw against Gaelscoil Na BhFal and a narrow win over Bunscoil an tSleibhe Dhuibh.

The recent Gaelic football tournament provided a thrilling showcase of talent and determination, with our team putting in a commendable effort across both matches.

Match 1: A Close Encounter (Holy Cross Boys’ PS Vs Gaelscoil Na BhFal)

The opening match was a tight contest from the start, with both teams evenly matched in skill and intensity. Bradain Kane was outstanding between the posts, making several crucial saves to keep the game within reach. His calm and composed presence under pressure ensured the team remained in contention throughout.

The forward line was equally impressive, with Ronan Burns, Ethan Maguire, and Kaelem Madden each contributing fine scores. Their accurate shooting and clever movement kept the scoreboard ticking over, and the boys worked tirelessly to find gaps in the opposition’s defence. Despite their best efforts, neither side could find the winning edge, and the match ended in a well-fought draw. Both teams walked off the pitch knowing they had given their all.

Match 2: Regrouping and Victory (Holy Cross Boys’ PS Vs Bunscoil an tSleibhe Dhuibh)

After the draw, the boys regrouped and entered the second match with renewed energy and focus. This game was another closely fought battle, but the team demonstrated resilience and improved coordination. Once again, Burns, Maguire, and Madden were key contributors, consistently creating scoring opportunities and keeping the pressure on the opposition.

In defense, Caoimhin Catney, Odhran Leith Corbett and Eoghan Cromie delivered superb performances. Their ability to read the game, break up attacks, and distribute the ball out of defence was instrumental in keeping the opposition at bay. Their defensive prowess allowed the team to build from the back and transition quickly into attack.

The defining moment came late in the match, when Eoghan Cromie pushed forward, scoring the decisive goal that secured the win for the team. His versatility and impact at both ends of the pitch underlined his value to the team and sealed the victory by a single goal.
