Careers Week - Tommy McCarthy and Tyrone McKenna (professional boxers, comedians, and podcasters) visit HCB

21st Apr 2026

HCB Careers Week continued this afternoon, with Tommy McCarthy and Tyrone McKenna—professional boxers, comedians, and podcasters—speaking to the boys about their journeys from childhood to becoming professional athletes.

The boys gained a fascinating insight into life as a professional boxer, learning about training routines, diet, preparation, and the experience of fighting opponents in different countries. A particularly enjoyable moment came when Tyrone’s former form teacher from his days at De La Salle College, Mr Diamond, took the opportunity to engage in conversation.

A huge thank you to Tommy and Tyrone for generously giving their time to visit the school and educate the boys about a career in boxing. Both are also widely known for their popular podcast, Whiskey and White, which focuses on boxing and sport and regularly features interesting guests.

The boys were engaged and intrigued from start to finish.

Many thanks also to Mr McEvoy for organising the event.
