HCB edged out in semis of Cumann mBunscol Aontroma

23rd Oct 2024

In a tightly contested match, HCB fell short by 3 points against a gallant St. Oliver Plunkett PS in the Cumann mBunscol Aontroma Allianz League Division 2 semi-final at Woodlands.

Under the expertise of Mr McEvoy and Mr Magennis, HCB produced some thrilling moments of skill and showed tremendous determination to create a three-point lead at the break.

The first half was a promising display with Ryan Reilly finding the back of the net to give HCB the lead. Points from Ronan Burns and Jack Hamilton extended the advantage, bringing the half-time score to 1-2 to 0-2. At the other end, goalkeeper Braiden Kane was a standout performer, showing remarkable bravery in coming off his line to collect high balls under pressure, keeping St. Oliver Plunkett at bay.

The second half, however, proved a bigger challenge, with the boys forced to battle against a fierce wind. Despite their best efforts and some deep digging, St. Oliver Plunkett gained the upper hand. Ronan Burns came close to swinging momentum back in HCB favour, but his powerful strike agonisingly rattled the crossbar.

Despite the late push, the boys couldn’t close the gap and were edged out by a narrow 3-point margin.

It was a tough defeat, but the boys showed great heart and determination throughout the match.
