Keeping Safe

GET HELP FROM AN ADULT

If you want to ask an adult for help, make sure it's someone you trust and feel safe with.

They might have helped you with something before.

They could be a:

  • parent or carer
  • teacher
  • aunt, uncle, grandparent or different family member
  • friend's parent
  • school nurse or counsellor
  • religious leader or sports coach.

It can feel scary to tell someone what's happening, but you have the right to feel safe and happy.

You do not have to go through this alone – try talking to an adult you feel safe with.

Talking can make you feel better, and an adult might be able to help. You can talk to them about what you would like to happen next.

It can be difficult to know what to say to when you ask someone for help. Our conversation starter can help     you plan what to say to an adult you feel safe with, or if it's easier, you can write it out in a letter for them.
